RYA Advanced Powerboat Course Overview, Aims and Duration

This advanced two day course is all about teaching you how to handle your powerboat in more challenging conditions and qualifying you to move further afield with it. During this course you'll be learning how to handle waves, travel fast and during the night. 

This two day course will include more in depth teaching of GPS navigation, boat handling, night navigation, planning speed navigation, search patterns and rough weather handling skills.

The two days of which you'll be learning will include exercises in planning speeds and night navigation in the first evening.

Days hours are outlined below:

Day one hours: from 09:30 - 3 or 4 hours after dusk (this will vary depending on the season and month. During the summer, some content from day two may be taught within the extra hours).

Day two hours: 09:30 - 17:00 (The hours listed here may be shorter during the summer, as some content may be taught in day one).

There will only be a maximum of three students per boat and per instructor.

RYA Powerboat Advanced Course Prerequisites

In order to join this course, the applicant must hold qualifications from the RYA Powerboat Level 2, navigation knowledge up to the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased, RYA First Aid and RYA SRC qualifications.

The applicant must also be aged 17 or over. Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

• The RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate
• Use of RIBs

• Loan of a life jacket and a light (for night navigation)
• Tea and coffee.

Please note that the following are not covered by the course price:

• Wet weather gear (Can be hired for £5 a day)
• Meals (please pack your own meals)
