The RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency course is useful for both novices and experienced jet ski riders alike.
By the end of this one day course, you'll have become proficient in a number of areas, such as:
- Handling a jet ski at low and high speeds,
- Knowing how to confidently ride a jet ski on your own,
- Safely launching a jet ski to a high-speed jet ski area.
And at the end of this one day course, you'll be provided with the prerequisites required to develop towards becoming an RYA Personal Watercraft (PWC) Instructor.

RYA PWC Jet Ski Proficiency Course Aims
This course takes place and requires your attendance over the duration of one day, during which you will be prepared with the knowledge and experience to be self-sufficient in good conditions and aware of limitations of both yourself and the watercraft.
You will be provided with the equipment you need to have a full fun day of jet skiing.
The jet ski activities take place in Southampton water which is ideal for traveling from London or the Solent area.
This jet ski course follows the RYA training syllabus and you will be provided with an RYA certificate upon successful completion of the course.
RYA PWC Jet Ski Proficiency Course Content
Throughout the duration of this course, you'll be taught about the following:
- Launching
- Handling and recovery skills
- passage planning and decision making
- High and low speed riding skills
- Essential safety information
- Collision avoidance and orientation at sea
The instructors will meet you in the morning, ensure you have the right equipment for the activities and forecast weather conditions. You can be provided separate equipment if needed.
As soon as everyone is equipped, we'll head straight-out to jet ski teach you the basic controls before you and have your first go. Before heading out to the high-speed area, we will ensure you are competent with the stopping distances and can use the basic controls.
Depending on the weather, we will either head straight to the high-speed area or hold back until the weather clears.
The instructed will have their own craft to support the course. The courses we offer are designed to ensure each student can progress at the speed they are comfortable with and not pressured to exceed the speed they wish. At the same time, if you wish to push your speed to its limits, opportunity will be provided for a white knuckled ride.
We recommend reading the RYA Personal Watercraft Handbook G35. This is included the price and will be provided when you arrive.
